Gladys Knight Poster

Gladys Knight

July 20, 2017

Gladys Knight has never been pigeonholed by her early Motown years. With her backing band The Pips she was one of the label's brightest stars in the late sixties, recording, amongst others, the original version of I Heard it through the Grapevine. She isn't nicknamed 'The Empress of Soul' for nothing. Since then however she's dabbled in jazz, r'n'b and gospel, and secured her place in the annuals of movie history with the theme from 1989's Bond film License to Kill. Rumours are there's a new album in the works so this 2014 tour may well see the premier of new material.

He saw the bulk of his solo, commercial and critical success in the late 70s and 80s, beginning with the release, in 1977, of "Lucille". Prior to that Rogers was frontman for a successful country-rock group The First Edition, with whom he had the hits "Just Dropped in (to See What Condition my Condition Was In)" and "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town". Rogers' smooth personal style (well manicured greying beard, salt and pepper hair and slick suits) and raw, achingly emotive voice proved perfect for romantic ballads and 'storytelling' songs.

Huey Lewis and The News have been defying the rock world for over three decades. The group has since celebrated their 30th anniversary and it's their contagious brand of straight-ahead rock n' roll that has had them selling well over 20 million albums worldwide in the process. These Grammy Award winners were behind the iconic "The Power of Love," that featured heavily in 1985's Back to the Future, as well as "Hip to be Square" from American Psycho.
