Some Like It Hot wins Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album

The Adaption of the 1958 Film Beat Sweeney Todd, Shucked, Kimberly Akimbo and Parade!

Some Like It Hot, the musical adaptation of Billy Wilder's 1959 film, was announced as the winner of the Best Musical Theater Album' award at the 2024 Grammy Awards. The 66th Annual Awards occurred on February 4th at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Some Like It Hot', choreographed and directed by Casey Nicholaw, ran on Broadway from November 2022 to December 2023, before announcing a 2025 tour. The Grammy Award recognizes the exceptional work done by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (music and lyrics), along with the musical's primary vocalists Christian Borle, J. Harrison Ghee, Adrianna Hicks, and NaTasha Yvette Williams. The award also includes the work of album producers Mary-Mitchell Campbell, Bryan Carter, Scott M. Riesett, Charlie Rosen, and Shaiman.

In 2003, Shaiman and Wittman had previously won the same award for their work on Hairspray. Other nominees for the Best Musical Theater Album award this year included Kimberly Akimbo, Shucked, Parade, and Sweeney Todd.

What is 'Some Like It Hot' About?

An American a farce as it gets, Some Like It Hot begins with a Mafia murder witnessed by smooth-operating saxophone player Joe and his bandmate Jerry. Masters of improvisation in jazz and in their everyday lives, they find a way to escape Chicago before being sent to sleep with the fishes. Disguising themselves as women, they join an all-female jazz ensemble and hop on a train to Florida. Later, Joe dons the persona of a wealthy businessman to win over the outfit's feisty frontwoman Sugar and Jerry finds himself being pursued by a real millionaire whilst the mobsters close in...
