Todd and Utopia at the Moore in Seattle

5/5

Wow! Been a fan of Todd and Utopia since the 70's and I was not disappointed. Amazing to me that after so many years apart the core Utopia group still sounds terrific. Great job by Gil on keyboards, he killed it! Kaz, Willie and Todd were on point all evening and provided the crowd with 2 1/2 hours of purely enjoyable rock, covering the entire Utopia catalog. Great video stage graphics to enhance the mood of the kick ass progressive rock in the first half of the show and the pop numbers played during the 2nd half. Would have liked to hear a few more Todd signature numbers, but after all, this is a Utopia show, so that is to be expected. Hoping the success of this tour leads to others, and if it does, don't miss it.

I have seen Todd in concert over 20 times and this one was one of his most inspiring performances. No monologue, no political statements: just straight ahead song after song bouncing from genre to genre in a fashion unfamiliar to mere mortals of pop music. This is a seriously thought out professional show that should not be missed. Experience this tour if you can. Congratulations to Todd and his extremely precise and soulful band. WHAT A TREAT!

Amazing show! I peaked at earlier set lists of this tour, and noticed that there were no songs i recognized until the encore. didn't matter. every song through the course of the set was a winner. unbelievable talent! definitely not a greatest hits or nostalgia tour!

Eclectic and Entertaining

The fact that TR's "hit wonder" followers were probably not expecting the set-list of the Cincinnati Me/We show is further evidence of his credo of IDGAF artistic and eclectic performances. Playing some songs for the first time live and some not-so-well-known songs across a wide array of genres, including one a Capela tune followed immediately by the hard rock performance of 'Rock Love' would test any performers ability to deliver, which he did. He played for almost exactly two hours, with no break except prior to the encore. His voice was incredibly strong and could cover a wide range of genres simultaneously. Recall that he will turn 76 in two months and is now touring over 50 cities, performing several times a week, a test even for those half his age. Truly a Wizard and True Star.

Todd Rungren at Charleston Music Hall

Absolutely fantastic show! Todd & his band were tight yet loose. They were perfectly synchronized with each other. Clearly very talented musicians with Todd firmly in control. He truly appeared to be having a blast, dancing and goofing off while his voice was rich, clear and full of resonance. The songs were very cool and ones I'd like very much to hear again. The lyrics were extremely introspective yet had a great hook. Some were laugh out loud clever making you Crack up. One joked about knuckles dragging the floor and my favorite of the night about getting up too quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed his last visit to this venue (our favorite in town) but this one was even more enjoyable. Here's to hoping he enjoyed it and might come again. Great meal next door at Rue de Jean before the show so all in all a wonderful & memorable night!!

Rundgren Me/We Tour- Ft. Lauderdale - 5/22/24

I have to admit that previewing the song list for the show prior to seeing the band left me with some doubt. people tend to want to hear songs that they’re familiar with. Having said that, Rundgren’s song selection was spot on, as he seemed to select songs that truly represented his song-writing genius. The band was terrific, including long-time Utopian Kasim Sultan in bass and vocals. Todd was in great voice too. They mixed in a smattering of 1970s-80s hits along the way too. If you only want to hear songs you’re very familiar with, then you may be a bit disappointed. If you want to hear an amazing performance of beautiful and fun music, don’t miss the show.
