5th Avenue Theatre celebrates the work of Jason Robert Brown with this limited run of his Drama Desk-winning musical, presented by ACT Contemporary Theatre.
An inventive tale of a relationship told by both parties, Jason Robert Brown's 2001 musical is a raw and honest look at modern romance and its various intricacies. From the flush of first love to the bittersweet ending, Brown imbues the story with humor and heart against a catchy score.
Named one of Time magazine's top shows of 2001 and featured in its movie form at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, The Last Five Years is the love story of two young New York residents, Cathy and Jamie. The musical brings audiences on a roller coaster ride of emotions as the couple fall in and out of love with one another over the course of five years.
As Cathy recounts her journey of love in reverse chronological order, Jamie starts at the beginning of their relationship, shortly after their first encounter. Despite both telling the story of their love, the pair meet and interact only once with each other in the show.
