An Effervescent Celebration of Asian Music

Back for an eleventh year of vibrant aural color and spectacular tradition, Seattle Symphony's Celebrate Asia returns to celebrate the music of Korea. The world class ensemble welcomes highly celebrated female conductor Shiyeon Sung, piano virtuoso Seong-Jin Cho and accomplished soprano Kathleen Kim for a resplendent evening of works from Thai classical composer Narong Prangcharoen, South Korean composer Unsuk Chin, John Adams and Rachmaninov, as well as a selection of traditional folk music songs.

One of the forerunners of Thailand's modern classical scene, Prangcharoen has thus far received a Guggenheim Fellowship, Barlow Prize and the Alexander Zemlinksy International Composition Competition Prize for his visionary weaving of Thai music and the Western classical idiom. Chin has also received much critical praise and a Wihuri Sibelius Prize, amongst others, for her passionate, lyrical and thoroughly modern musical expression.
