Seattle Opera - Aida

Seattle Opera - Aida at McCaw Hall

Why see Seattle Opera - Aida?

Heavenly Aida

With brand new visuals from RETNA artist Jessica Lang, this fresh new staging of Aida brings Verdi's epic up to date. With parkour and modern dance in the background, the story of an emotional love triangle set against the tumult of two warring societies is giving a more relevant background that closely mirrors the Arab Spring. Vibrant and brimming with passion and soaring melodies, Aida is one of Verdi's finest works, displaying his incredible talent for capturing the subtlety of humanity.

Set in Ancient Egypt, the story centres around the conflict between forbidden love and hatred for one's enemies. Aida, a seemingly lowly Ethiopian slave girl is in love with her Egyptian captor Radames, a distinguished warrior on the battlefield. Unbeknownst to everyone however, she is in fact the captured princess from Ethiopia, whose furious father is on his way to rescue her, laying waste to Egypt in his path. Adding to the sense of danger is Amneris, the Egyptian princess, whose intense love for Radames cannot shake the feeling that the mysterious Aida just may be her rival in love.
