Two solo albums and three Grammy Award nominations later and Alison is back, channelling the rhythm-first, improvisational energy of great female artists everywhere! Not only has Alison carved a legacy for herself in the music industry through soul-stirring music, but she has also used her platform to elevate, educate, and inspire.
Immerse yourself in the rhythm-first, genre-fluid sounds of Alison's albums Outside Child (2021) and The Returner (2023) - both soulful expressions of Black liberation, Black love, and Black self-respect.
The album earned Alison four Grammy Award nominations, in categories such as Best Americana Album, Best American Roots Song, and Best Americana Performance specifically for the title track, The Returner. Recorded during the Solstice week in December 2022 at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles, the album showcases an exceptional all-female musical ensemble referred to by Allison as The Rainbow Coalition, with Allison Russell leading on vocals, harmony vocals, banjo, and clarinet.
In all, the new album and tour don't just deliver on the massive promise of the last two years, they brilliantly exceed all reasonable (and unreasonable) expectations.
